Is there a space where (1) the notion of success can be shattered (2) stage and ground can merge (3) blacknesses’ gravity can be felt? If these questions are formulated under the mode of power (« can ») – as potential as well as ownership -, they are primarily desires, each formulated by The Colt is Young & Hatred. Borrowing the exhibition format to better embrace questions specific to performance, The Colt is Young & Hatred attempts to set the parameters to reevaluate the position of blackness as a concept used by display devices and discursive complexes, mainly within the Francophone and Anglophone contexts.
The final project will take the form, at DOC, of a territory where densities, temperatures, transparences and skeletal structures will be the main elements. Eventually, it will no longer be a space «where » but a space « through which », thus operating a transfer from the exhibition as site to the exhibition as vessel.
Project supported by the Fluxus Art Projects, Arts Council England and the British Council.
DOC’s exhibition programme is conceived by Corentin Canesson, Nicolas Degrange, Daiga Grantina, Iseult Perrault, Gina Proenza and Eva Vaslamatzi.
