SAC adds two new specialisations

SAC is proud to announce two new specialisations alongside its existing specialisation in Advanced Architectural Design. These are Architecture and Performative Design and Architecture and Critical Spatial Practice.
Specialisation is chosen at the end of the first year of studies.

The Architecture Class of the Städelschule – Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste (Frankfurt) – is a two-year, post-graduate Master of Arts program in Advanced Architectural Design. The Architecture Class offers one of the leading international training programs in the field. „The Stiftung Städelschule für Baukunst wants to strengthen and support the significance of the architecture class by offering international activities which in its name and possibly with its participation will take place, such as competitions, summer-academies or conferences. Baukunst Prize 2012

The Foundation Städelschule für Baukunst has announced its first ever Baukunst Prize for 2012. The competition for the prize is open to alumni of the Städelschule Architecture Class and seeks unrealised or realised projects that embody the inter- or trans-disciplinary ideal that the foundation promotes. Projects can thematise architecture, landscapes, urban or other, abstract spatial qualities. The jury includes Sir Peter Cook and Tobias Rehberger, the first prize is awarded €1000 and the submitted work will be exhibited in the German Architectural Museum.

SAC hosts Beatriz Colomina and Mark Wigley, January 7-10. Their visit includes a school excursion to the Mollino-exhibition at the Haus der Künste in München, seminars and a lecture by Colomina on 10 January.

Topology Optimisation Workshop

A one-day workshop on optimisation introduces the Master Thesis Group in Architecture and Performative Design to Topology Optimization. The workshop is comprised of an introduction on optimization and design space exloration by André Chaszar and a hands-on workshop using topostruct, a program for structuraltopology optimization developed by Panagiotis Michalatos and Sawako Kaijima.

Physical Episodes in the Construction of Space

Physical Episodes in the Construction of Space’ is a series of short modeling workshops (1-3 days) that run on a weekly or bi-weekly basis till early December. The workshops are part of the training in Advanced Architectural Design. The work consists of physical modeling and drawing exercises - the first of which comprise the making generic and scale-less objects.

The Master Thesis Group in Advanced Architectural Design to Volos in Greece for a collaborative workshop with the postgraduate programme in architecture at the University of Thessaly. SAC Graduation and X Anniversary

Friday 11 and Saturday 12 November SAC celebrated the Graduating Class 2011 and the ten years that Ben van Berkel and Johan Bettum have been leading the programme. SAC Pattern Workshop

The Master Thesis Group in Advanced Architectural Design is currently undertaking the task of modelling various architectural patterns. The work is undertaken in Rhino Grasshopper and the results will be implemented in various mapping and modelling work to come later in the year. The workshop is given by Anton Savov.

Mark Wigley and Beatriz Colomina complete another series of seminars with students at SAC. This time around they addressed the idea of and practice with plastic materials in architecture, drawing on historical as well as contemporary examples.
