Guests

The Städelschule and SAC offer an impressive list of visitors each year. With its small but highly international programs, the school attracts architectural practitioners and theorists, artists and visitors from related fields for shorter and longer stays.

Thus, over the years, the Städelschule has hosted numerous events and lectures series with distinguished guests. The lists includes prominent artists like Olafur Eliasson, John Baldessari, Rikrit Tiravanija and Yoko Ono, many of whom have also exhibited in the school’s Portikus gallery. The Architecture Class has hosted prominent persona like Jeffrey Kipnis, Mohsen Mostafavi, Jesse Reiser, Aaron Betsky and Wolf Prix.

Other well-known guests have included the engineers, Werner Sobek and Manfred Grohmann of Bollinger & Grohmann, Don Bates of Lab in Australia, the Dutch theorist Roemer van Toorn, Mark Goulthorpe, Brett Steele, Michael Speaks - to mention just a few.

Equally important are the many less known guests, excellent theorists and practitioners who frequently spend more time with SAC and contribute to the work through seminars and workshops. The Slovenian-born and Amsterdam-based architect, Igor Kebel, is one. Others include Arnold Wals and Ulrika Karlsson and Marcelyn Gow.

In addition to this plethora of guests who shuffle in and out of the bustling international atmosphere of Frankfurt, are the excellent local friends of the programme. To this group count Peter Schmal, the director of the German Architectural Museum, and the architects Nikolaus Hirsch, Achim Menges and Oliver Tessmann.
