SAC adds two new specialisations
SAC is proud to announce two new specialisations alongside its existing specialisation in Advanced Architectural Design. These are Architecture and Performative Design and Architecture and Critical Spatial Practice.
Specialisation is chosen at the end of the first year of studies.

The Architecture Class of the Städelschule – Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste (Frankfurt) – is a two-year, post-graduate Master of Arts program in Advanced Architectural Design. The Architecture Class offers one of the leading international training programs in the field. Stiftung Städelschule für Baukunst
„The Stiftung Städelschule für Baukunst wants to strengthen and support the significance of the architecture class by offering international activities which in its name and possibly with its participation will take place, such as competitions, summer-academies or conferences. Furthermore prizes concerning certain topics will be awarded as well as guestprofessorships.“, Günter Bock
Baukunst Prize 2012
The Foundation Städelschule für Baukunst has announced its first ever Baukunst Prize for 2012. The competition for the prize is open to alumni of the Städelschule Architecture Class and seeks unrealised or realised projects that embody the inter- or trans-disciplinary ideal that the foundation promotes. Projects can thematise architecture, landscapes, urban or other, abstract spatial qualities. The jury includes Sir Peter Cook and Tobias Rehberger, the first prize is awarded €1000 and the submitted work will be exhibited in the German Architectural Museum.

BEATRIZ COLOMINA AND MARK WIGLEY RETURN TO SAC
SAC hosts Beatriz Colomina and Mark Wigley, January 7-10. Their visit includes a school excursion to the Mollino-exhibition at the Haus der Künste in München, seminars and a lecture by Colomina on 10 January.

SAC PREPARES FOR SMARTGEOMETRY 2012

In preparation for their hosting a SmartGeometry workshop in New York, SAC's Andre Chaszar and Anton Savov will run a workshop with SAC's First Year Group. The results will be exhibited at the Open House exhibition of the Städelschule, 10-12 February. The event is part of SAC's collaboration with RMIT, Bollinger+Grohmann Ingenieure and Grimshaw Architects. The SmartGeometry workshop on MicroSynergetics is a cluster led by Chaszar, Savov and other at RPI, Troy, New York in March 2012.

apd presentation

The Master Thesis Group in Architectural Performative Design (APD) is conducting research on interlocking modular assemblies which unfold structural capacity by kinematically constraining and interlocking elements. Starting with a concept borrowed from material science the studio is addressing aspects of architectural design, structural, environmental and material performance.Results of the first research phase will be presented at SAC, Wednesday Dec. 14th, 2011, 11:00 - 18:00.

The Open House Exhibition of the Städelschule, takes place February 10-12, 2012. SAC will present ongoing work both in its own house and the main building of the school.

Beatriz Colomina: Manifesto Architecture - From ZANG TUMB TUMB to Twitter
The history of the avant-garde (in art, architecture, literature) can’t be separated from the history of its engagement with the media. It is not just the avant-garde used media to publicize their work. The work didn’t exist before its publication. This lecture focuses on the last 100 years of architectural manifestoes as they migrate from printed media to new media and beyond.
The lecture takes place in Städelschule Aula at 19:00
