Urban redevelopment, a firmware

A firmware is an entity that  stands among hardware and software, it is a negotiation system. the thesis proposal investigates the urban re-devlopment of the Degussa site, under the urban form of a skyscraper in its pertinence to the inner city of Frankfurt am Main. Intensifying and relaxing different contextual conditions and inputs. Intensification in terms of additions of programmable space and relaxation upon the freeing of the area for public use and leisure.
Two models, the network model, and the “muscularity” model are used to achieve this relational dynamics of intensification and relaxation of the the urban space. The network model activates the redevelopment of the site as urban interstitiality, generating differentiated opportunities for program insertion: generating an ecology of quasi self-sufficient environments. The “Muscularity” model allows for a design methodology that combines stress driven form finding with fiber distribution logics and it proliferates the concept of muscularity seen as semimonocoque surface.
